... it would be so difficult to get someone to actually make art? I didn't realize Subeta artists tended to be so unreliable, especially since I used to be one!

I have over 100 million sP and all I've wanted to do is buy some art with it so I can stop logging in, and I just can't get anyone to actually do the art I commission them for. I'm not asking for anything complicated or doing anything weird. These artists just.. disappear after accepting my commission. "I'll have a sketch for you in a week at most!" turns into literally never as months pass and they never update their threads or reply to my PMs.

It's frustrating, and I'm about ready to delete Subeta from my bookmarks and just let all that sP rot. Rant rant rant.

Yeah, I don't know. It's been SEVERAL people now. I swear I'm not asking for anything weird, I just wanted some pictures of my boyfriend's character: http://batfeathers.com/Roanoke/Roanoke.html

As you can see, he's not complicated, and most Subeta artists seem to want to do humans too. I'm sure it's just bad luck, but it does make me want to give up and just... leave. If they're busy, that's okay! But please at least reply to my PM asking for progress... blah. Do you know of any good human artists that take sP and are reliable, and open currently?

-La dA and Scraps Hope those links worked

You can give me whatever price you want, I'm fine with it, because, in a way, I feel bad that I still have a lot of other stuff

Tbh, I've had that happen a few times over the years. I'll commission someone and they just poof from the site. Occasionally I see them pop back up months later with a new shop taking commissions and I'm just like, whatever, good luck with your life. There is a small percentage of Subetan artists who seem to come around when they need funds/attention or whatever and then drop off the face of the planet when they get what they need. Eventually people stop commissioning them, from what I've seen.

I've had this so many times, and it's particularly irking if they then come back with a new shop. IDK if you don't think you can do it or RL gets in the way just SAY, I've had to cancel commissions before, it's embarrassing but at least you're less likely to loose a customer (and I do like to go back to artists if I like their work and they're reliable). Sadly it seems to be that on here artist I like = unreliable more often than not. Though I do have a nice collection too. Things are better if you can pay real cash, but I can't afford that often atm and I know a lot of people are in the same position. It's not a definite but going to a thread instead of starting a buying thread is almost always more reliable. ALL my buying threads have produced more flaky artists than reliable ones. If the artist looks really good AND have been around a lot but their thread is lagging, it's probably not a good sign, all the regular buyers are keeping away. Keep an eye out for repeat buyers, if you see the same people buying a lot in different places, they're probably already aware of the good artists and are visiting where they know they can get the goods. Long threads with lots of feedback and active buyers is also a good sign and suggests turn overs as does a link to an up to date collection (e.g. tumblr) of their finished commissions. Be cautious of artists with huge numbers of slots (particularly those of a complex style or who are new to the scene), they're more likely to bite off more than they can chew.

High turn over, repeat customers, lots of processed commissions and a list of finished commissions are all good signs, not DEFINITE, but certainly encouraging.

- Communication with commissioners is always awesome too. It really doesn't take much from an artist to give a quick update, and I think that helps retain and encourage commissioners to stay. Paying USD has some draw backs as well. I've had enough situations pre-paying and an artist drags their feet. That's really frustrating when your money is already out of your account and you're waiting. There is a fine balance between keeping both ends of the commission bargain good and fair.

Yes.. after my experiences, I don't think I'd be comfortable paying subeta artists upfront. It makes me feel bad to say it because I'm someone who normally takes money upfront when I offer commissions (but I have a good reputation in the places I sell). But I have literally not been able to get a single piece of art from subeta yet, despite many attempts, because everyone just disappears and ignores my PMs.

Honestly, I have had that happen to me so many times on Subeta it is down right depressing. Its also one of the many reasons I refuse to pay anyone upfront, do any more of those (insert event) for art boards, or pay actual money to artists on Subeta. I've only had a few artists actually keep in touch with me (and those I would recommission in a heart beat if I needed anything done and they had a board). It gets so frustrating because it feels like there is nothing you can do as a buyer.

I particularly hate it when they make a new board. I tend to send them a private message to see how the progress has been, but surprise, they usually don't answer me back. It just gets frustrating and sometimes depressing. Or, for me it did. I always wondered if my characters were just not good enough to draw..

Sorry, I sort of took this as my own rant myself. I wish you luck and I hope you find an artist soon,

Nope it's just fine! Obviously I can relate. :) I don't normally have problems getting art on other sites so it's kind of weird.

If you ever join Aywas come look me up, I take commissions once in a while.. and actually do them! GASP

If I ever join the site, I shall take you up on that offer ^_^. Thanks!

And I looked at the character profile and I agree, there doesn't look to be anything hard or over complicated about him.

I honestly had this happening pretty much every single time the past two years. Artists disappearing of the earth, or shops with notes that said that i you asked when your art was coming that you wouldn't get it because OMG PUSHY MUCH, people doing discounted slots for a few hours and then disappearing for two weeks 'OMG GUYS I SCRATCHED ALL THE SLOTS BECAUSE I REALLY NEED TO START FRESH' (bye bye all slots grabbed by people during the discount period).

I gave up with art on subeta, because a lesson taught me, that if you aren't paying in real money, people are going to be unreliable and unprofessional. Not all of them... just 90% (to my experience)
